Broadband upgrade update
Cable & Wireless engineers are currently
carrying out final testing ahead of the upgrade to the island’s
broadband network to enable speeds of up to 8 Megabits per second
(MB).
Work on the £2.5 million project, which will
double most household broadband speeds from 1MB – 2MB involves
transferring the existing connections to new equipment that has
been installed at all of the Bailiwick's eight exchanges.
Businesses and heavy users can get an upgrade to either a 4MB
or 8MB service. The focus of engineers is in ensuring that the
transition is smooth, with no disruption to existing broadband
services.
The higher connection speeds that will be
available following this upgrade to the core network are being
provided to all local internet service providers at no additional
cost.
Cable & Wireless engineers are currently
working to resolve a small number of technical issues that have
arisen during this major upgrade. This has meant a slight delay to
start of the planned roll-out, however the full island-wide upgrade
it is still expected to be complete by 31st March 2008.
