Navy Helicopter Calls at le Rondin
Children from Le Rondin School will receive a
flying visit from the Navy this week, thanks to Sure and the
Lieutenant Governor.
A Royal Navy Sea King helicopter and crew from
771 Squadron RNAS Culdrose will be touching down at Le Rondin
School on Thursday at 10.00am (8 May).
The crew and helicopter will be landing in the
field adjacent to the school where 200 primary school children aged
four to eleven from Le Rondin and The Forest will be waiting to
welcome them.
This is the fifth time that the Sea King has
visited the island in the last six years as part of the Liberation
Day celebrations.
Sure’s Ian Wilkie has links with the squadron
as he was in the Navy for 24 years before taking up his job with
the telecoms company. With the support of the Lieutenant Governor,
Sir Fabian Malbon, and Sure he was able to arrange the visit this
year.
“It’s great that we have the opportunity to get
the helicopter over and I know that the pupils really enjoyed it
last year. Witnessing a helicopter landing in a field beside their
school will be a memorable day for them,” Mr Wilkie said.
“It wouldn’t have been possible without Sure’s
backing and the support that the Governor has given.”
Once the aircraft has landed the crew will
invite the children on-board the aircraft to have a look at the
cockpit and learn about the helicopter.
