Sure’s search for a star begins

Sure is searching for a star this summer as local bands and solo artists go head to head in an X-factor style talent contest.
The Sure Star Search follows last year’s enormously successful Voice of Guernsey competition, which more than 30 singers entered, and the inclusion of bands this time means it will be even more hotly contested.
As well as picking up a bigger first prize of £1000 and a recording session with Island FM, the winner will also top the bill at the Sure Summer 2009 Ball and headline a gig at The Doghouse.
Nikki Symons, events and sponsorship manager for Sure, said after the success of last year’s competition the organisers were keen to make this one even better.
“Last year we were genuinely surprised with the standard of the performers, and the judges had a really tough job to choose a winner from the first heats right through to the final. There is some great talent here in Guernsey, and this is another chance for local artists to really show what they can do,” she said.
“By including bands this year, Sure Star Search is going to be even bigger and better.”
Voice of Guernsey winner Lee Rosete, encouraged any local performers to take part.
“Winning was fantastic, and it has been a great opportunity for me. Taking part was a lot of fun though, and I would say to anyone who thinks that they might have what it takes to enter and really show off their talent,” she said.
All of the rounds will take place at the Doghouse, and the contest gets underway with the first of the five heats on 14 July. Semi-finals will take place in mid August, and the champion will be crowned on 7 September.
Anyone wishing to enter has until 24 June to submit a demo CD to Nick Stephens, manager of the Doghouse, along with an entry form. These can be collected from the venue or Sure’s High Street store, or downloaded at www.surecw.com
