There will be big screen movies galore and
fun-packed entertainment at the beach this July when Sure’s
Midsummer Magic makes a welcome return to the island.
A total of 13 blockbusters will be shown over
the five day free film extravaganza that promises fun for all the
family. And the public will be able to pick the movies they most
want to see, by simply voting for their favourite and the most
popular choices will be included in the schedule.
It is the fourth year that Sure has bought the
big screen to Guernsey, and this year the event will begin with an
extra special feature in Town on Friday 19 July. Midsummer Magic
will then move to Cobo for four days, where there will be three
films a day. A children’s matinee film will start at 2:30pm each
day, followed by family blockbusters at 5pm and 7:30pm.
In the last three years, it is estimated there
have been more than 10,000 filmgoers who have taken the opportunity
to enjoy an afternoon and evening’s entertainment, and the event
has also raised more than £2,500 for charity.
Sure’s Marketing Director, Mark Briers said
Midsummer Magic 2008 promised to be just as popular.
“Midsummer Magic is one of the hottest events
of the summer. This year we hope to make it even more spectacular,
and will shortly be announcing a brand new feature to be held on
June 19th which is a first for Guernsey!” he said.
“Last year the public got to choose all the
films for the first time, and that was a huge success with over
2,000 votes being cast. So we are doing the same this year, and
planning to make the event even more fun, even more exciting, and
even more entertaining. The films we show are the choice of the
Guernsey public so if you are mad about movies make sure you
vote!”
Islanders can vote for the film they would most
like to see either by texting the name of the film to 8888, online
