Drive-in movie for one night only this midsummer
Guernsey will get a drive-in movie theatre for
the first time ever this summer.
The car park at Salerie Corner will be
transformed into a drive-in movie theatre on Saturday July
19th.
Sure is organising the event which will see
hundreds of movie fans watching the big screen in the comfort of
their own cars. It is part of Sure’s Midsummer Magic which also
includes four days of films screened by the beach in Cobo Bay
between 20 -23rd July.
It is the first time that such an event has
taken place in the island and Steve Smith Sure’s Head of PR, said
that it will be memorable.
“This has never happened before in Guernsey.
Drive-ins were very popular in the late 1950s and early 1960s in
America, and we want to capture some of that excitement and give
islanders a really good show,” he said.
The soundtrack to the big movie will be
transmitted over a radio frequency which islanders will be able to
tune into in their vehicles, or on a portable radio.
As for all of Sure’s Midsummer Magic, the
public is free to vote for any film with a U, PG, 12 or 12A rating,
and the ones that collect the most votes between now and 16 June
will be screened throughout Sure’s Midsummer magic from the 19th –
23rd July. Islanders can vote by texting the name of the film to
8888, by emailing
midsummer@cwgsy.net, online at
www.surecw.com/magic or
by filling in a form in the Sure store on the high street.
200 free drive-in tickets will be available
online on Thursday 19 June on a first come first served basis.
Tickets will be per car, and the cinema goers will also get two
boxes of complimentary popcorn and a soft drink to enjoy.
