SURE LOOKING FOR IPHONE SUPPLIERS
Sure is searching for a suitable supplier for
the next generation Apple iPhone after its launch in July.
The next generation iPhone was launched
recently by Apple founder Steve Jobs. The updated model promises to
have a camera, a socket which can fit any headphones and
dramatically improved audio.
Sure’s marketing director, Mark Briers said
that the company could not stock the original iPhone because Apple
had an exclusive deal with O2. However, the manufacturer has
indicated that it plans to supply the new iPhone to other mobile
operators as well. However Mr Briers ruled out stocking ‘grey’
handsets that do not come from an Apple-approved supplier.
“Apple has to date kept a very tight rein on
the sales channels in all its various markets. However we are
continuing to try and source a supplier,” he said.
“The recently announced plans for the
forthcoming launch suggest that rather than dealing with just one
network operator, Apple is looking to make its new iPhone available
to more providers. Nevertheless, islanders can expect a lag whilst
Apple first negotiates with the world’s largest mobile operators.
We are currently exploring a number of options to get the phone as
soon as possible.”
“One thing that we will not do is use
unapproved suppliers to get the iPhone, because that would create a
risk that customers cannot get their phone fixed if it breaks, or
cannot process a software update.”
