Fire fighters battle water for good cause
On Friday 3 October a team of eight from the
Fire and Rescue Service will be jumping into the Beau Sejour pool
to raise money for the Guernsey Dyslexia Day Centre.
This year’s Swimarathon, sponsored by Sure, has
pledged £20,000 to renovate the Guernsey Dyslexia Day Centre, which
has helped more than 1,000 primary school children since its
inception in 1987.
Bob Marley, the Fire and Rescue Swimarathon
team captain, said that he had been swimming regularly in the
summer.
"We have entered a few times before and it is
always fun. I can’t speak for the rest of the lads, but I
have swam in the sea quite a few times this summer, and am really
looking forward to doing a few lengths for such a great
cause.
"The Swimarathon is a great event and I would
strongly advise as many people as possible to join in," he
said.
The Fire Brigade has already raised more than
£200 with several more weeks to go before the islandwide charity
event.
The Swimarathon is being organised by The Lions
Club of Guernsey and The Guernsey Round Table.
