Santa’s Tales Help Guernsey Children
More than 4,600 calls were made to Santa’s
festive storyline this Christmas and Sure donated five pence to
Help a Guernsey Child for every call.
Santa received the most calls of all the 13
days the storyline was running, on Christmas Eve when more than 620
children phoned up to listen in.
Steve Smith, Sure’s Head of PR, said that the
company wanted to encourage as many islanders as possible to call
in.
“We wanted to do something new with Santa this
year and in the spirit of Christmas. We thought that by
donating 5p per call we could get more people to ring in and help a
great local charity in the process,” he said. “It has been a great
success.”
Thousands of islanders also wished family and
friends a Merry Christmas with free calls from Sure on Christmas
Day and Boxing Day.
Mr Smith reminded islanders that all calls
between local landlines on Thursday 1 January 2009 will be
free.
Nearly 100,000 free calls were made on
Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day in 2007/8.
