Guernsey Plans to be the Loudest Team at 2009 Island Games
Guernsey is guaranteed to win at least one
title at this year’s Island Games.
Sure has given every member of the Guernsey
contingent bang bang sticks which will help them become the loudest
team in
Åland. When inflated the green sticks, which have Guernsey
written down the side, are banged together to create a loud noise
which Sure is hoping will help cheer the Guernsey team to a record
number of gold medals.
“Sure is delighted that we have been able to
support this year’s talented Guernsey team and hope to see all the
players and supporters using the bang bang sticks at all the events
to cheer the Guernsey competitors on. We wish them all the luck in
the world and look forward to following their progress,” said
Sure’s Marketing Director Paul Taylor.
Sure, which has its own Steve Yates and Laura
Le Page competing in the games, has also given rucksacks to each of
the 250 people travelling to Aland which includes competitors,
officials and the Bailiff Sir Geoffrey Rowland.
“We have been overwhelmed by the support that
the Guernsey team has had from so many different parts of the
island’s community especially from our main sponsor MeesPierson. It
is incredibly expensive to be involved with sport but the
additional support from Sure will mean that players have bags to
carry their kit around the Island Games village and of course we’ll
be using the bang bang sticks to cheer our team onto victory,” said
chair of Guernsey’s Island Games committee Denise Fawcett.
