SURE WELCOMES 3G DEVELOPMENTS
Sure has welcomed the Office of Utility
Regulation’s announcement that it will be issued with a 3G
licence.
Earlier this year the OUR announced plans to
create a level playing field for all three operators by
reallocating some spectrum, which Sure has agreed to release, to
Airtel Vodafone and inviting Sure to apply for a 3G licence.
“We are pleased with this announcement and are
grateful to the OUR for its work in ensuring that all three
operators in Guernsey can now compete technically on equal terms,”
said Paul Taylor, Sure’s Marketing Director.
“Any moves which give customers access to a
full range of services has to be welcomed and enabling all three
operators access to both 2G and 3G is a very fair decision as it
will mean all can be competitive in their customer offering.”
The announcement will see Sure releasing 2x5MHz
of 900MHZ spectrum to Guernsey Airtel Limited, which is a
prerequisite to Sure being awarded a 3G licence.
“As the market leader in Guernsey, Sure has
built up an excellent relationship with the OUR which has enabled
it to create an increasingly level playing field. We believe that a
spectrum plan for the efficient and effective use of any future
spectrum should be agreed between all three operators as soon as
possible and look forward to working with the OUR to achieve this,”
he said.
Mr Taylor added that the company would not be
able to confirm when 3G services would be rolled out to customers,
however it would make further announcements.
