EX-DIRECTORY MOBILE NUMBERS NOT PASSED TO THIRD PARTIES

Sure is reassuring customers that ex-directory mobile phone numbers are not passed on following concern in the UK over a new mobile directory.
There has been national coverage over a new web and phone service from 118800.co.uk which has compiled a database from market research data. Customers who have included their mobile number but failed to tick a box in the small print asking for their details not to be passed on could be included in the directory which has taken two years to build.
Unlike traditional directory enquiry services, numbers are not passed on to the person looking but instead the person being sought is contacted and asked if they are happy to receive the call.
Sure’s Head of Customer Operations, Janet Brookfield is reassuring islanders that it has had no involvement in the new directory.
“Sure’s mobile customers have to opt in to appear in the Sure on-line directory or in the Guernsey directory and if they do so then their number is then in the public domain. Mobile customers who choose not to appear in the directory can be assured that Sure keeps these numbers confidential,” she said.
“We would advise all our customers that if they don’t want to receive unwanted calls, texts or written correspondence from third parties that they should always read the small print and tick the relevant boxes.”
Islanders concerned about the new 118800.co.uk directory should contact Ofcom at http://www.ofcom.org.uk or by calling 0207 981 3040.
