Faster broadband across Guernsey
28 April 2010
Guernsey now has faster broadband across the
island.
Engineers for Sure have upgraded connections at
seven exchanges serving the island, Alderney and Sark and completed
the work a week ahead of schedule.
The work was the first stage of a major project
to deliver a doubling of speeds for broadband across the Bailiwick
at no extra cost to Sure customers. The great majority of internet
users in the islands will already be seeing improved speeds.
Vicki Abraham, Consumer Product Manager, Fixed
Services, said:
“The broadband work has gone really well, more
rapidly than we expected, and the feedback we’ve received from
customers so far has been positive. We haven’t had any lasting
problems reported so far.
“Our planning for the second phase of this
project starts now and we will see further increases in internet
speeds, while maintaining the quality of the network, later this
year.”
Any faults should be reported through the usual
Customer Service Centre telephone number 700700. Customers of other
Internet Service Providers should report their experiences direct
to their provider.
As part of the upgrade, residential broadband
lines have been enhanced, meaning that instead of receiving speeds
of up to 2 Megabits per second (Mb/s) customers could now receive
to up to 4Mb/s.
