Return of Outdoor Cinema is a Sure Thing
The popular outdoor cinema will make a welcome
return this summer.
Sure has confirmed that following the success
of Midsummer Magic, which took place each year from 2005 to 2008,
it will be screening more than 20 films at Cobo from 21 – 27
August.
‘Sure Big Screen will be one of the island’s
biggest free community events and we are delighted that we are able
to bring outdoor cinema back to Guernsey,’ said Sure’s chief
executive Eddie Saints.
‘Sure is proud to serve the whole community and
we see this event as being something that islanders of all ages can
enjoy. In 2008, more than 6,000 people watched the films and we
have no doubt that even more will come down this August. It’s going
to be a great week but we now need help from people to help us
decide which films to show.’
For the first time, islanders are being given
the opportunity to suggest which films should be shown at Sure Big
Screen. On each of the seven days, three films will be shown and
Sure wants islanders to nominate which films will be in the final
21 by emailing their suggestions to
surebigscreen@cwgsy.net‘We want Sure Big Screen to be an event that
involves islanders from the very beginning which is why we are
asking them to tell us which films they want to see. We are looking
for a wide range of films from family favourites and timeless
classics to action packed thrillers and entertaining romantic
comedys,’ said Mr Saints.
‘Obviously there may be some films that we
simply can’t show due to licensing restrictions but we’re hoping
that we can put together a schedule that has something for
everyone.’
Film suggestions need to be emailed to
surebigscreen@cwgsy.net by
Wednesday 29 February 2012 to give Sure sufficient time to gain the
necessary permissions. The full programme for Sure Big Screen will
be announced closer to the event.
