History
The Sure service, backed by the world-wide
resources of Cable & Wireless, has a long and proud history in
the Bailiwick. We were here right from the start of telephone
services in the islands in 1898.
After operating purely as a Bailiwick service
in the early twentieth century, the first telephone call to the UK
was made in 1931 and an early version of a facsimile was sent in
1935.
With the introduction of automatic exchanges
and direct dialling in the 50s and 60s, the hallmarks of modern
Bailiwick telecommunications were established – an independent
network operating within the UK numbering scheme.
