Lanlink configuration
All fibre LAN Link solutions for both 10 Mbs and 100 Mbs
services are set up as follows:
• Speed is set to the required speed. ie. 10 or 100Meg.
• Duplex is set to Full Duplex Operation.
• Auto-Negotiation is set to OFF.
• Customer service presentation is via a RJ-45
connector set to either 10BASET OR Fastethernet presentation.
• Customers are not permitted to gain access to
the internal workings of the NTU, which remains the property of
Cable and Wireless Guernsey.
• Customers are not permitted to move or shift
the service from its original location.
• All of the above settings are NOT user
adjustable. Any attempt to alter the settings may leave the
customer liable to criminal prosecution.
Notes:
Service units do NOT comply with the IEEE
802.3U specification for auto-negotiation as supplied and fitted.
The result of connecting equipment set to auto-negotiate is the
equipment will set itself to Half Duplex when the Interface
Converter is running at Full- Duplex resulting in the following
fault conditions.
A]
Collisions
C] FCS Errors
B] Late Collisions D]
Duplex Miss-match
The result being that data throughput will be
only a fraction of the theoretical capacity. The solution is to set
the ports of the attached equipment to Full Duplex and the
appropriate speed
also ensuring all auto-negotiation is switched OFF.
