Managing Operating System Service Specific Terms and Conditions

The Cable & Wireless Guernsey Managed Operating System (OS) Service provides the installation, management and support of Operating Systems running on the Hosting Servers included in Your Hosting Solution.

We will install and manage Your chosen Operating System(s) on Your Hosting Servers. If Your Hosting Solution includes a Clustered Environment, We will install and manage the redundancy between the Clustered Hosting Servers.

DATA CENTRE SPECIFIC TERMS AND CONDITIONS

These Data Centre Specific Terms and Conditions should be read in conjunction with the Data Centre General Terms and Conditions.  Where there is conflict, these Data Centre Specific Terms and Conditions (as applicable) supersede the Data Centre General Terms and Conditions.

1. Definitions And Interpretation

The Data Centre General Terms and Conditions include definitions.  Any definitions set out below are in addition.

"Active/Active Cluster" configuration means that both of the Cluster's systems are production (for reasons of load balancing) but in the case of a failure of one system all traffic will be directed to the other system.

"Active/Passive Cluster" configuration means that one system is the Cluster's production system and the other is the Cluster's standby system.

"Business Day " means any day Monday through Friday excluding Bank Holidays in the Bailiwick of Guernsey.

"Cluster" or "Clustered Environment" means a redundant system of identical Hosted Servers.

"Customer Software" is application or database software provided by You and installed at Our site.

"Fallback" means the switching back to a Cluster's production system following a Failover, after the cause of the Failover has been repaired.

"Failover" means the process of switching from a Cluster's production system to its backup system when a failure of the production system occurs.

"Hosted Application" is a World Wide Web or other application hosted at Our site containing World Wide Web, Internet or intranet content.

"Hosting Server" means the server hardware and software, managed by Us, dedicated to hosting a Hosted Application

"Hosting Solution" means a collection of services taken as a single solution provided by Us to You.

"Operating System" means a computer programme installed on a server, which enables Your software and Hosted Applications to run on that server.

"Security Patch" means software provided by a manufacturer to update an Operating System to the latest security requirements.

"Service Pack" means software provided by a manufacturer to generally enhance an Operating System.

"Virtual Private Network (VPN)" means a network of secure encrypted tunnels across the Internet.

2. Provision Of Service

2.1 The Supported Platforms Document specifies the makes, models and configuration of systems supported by Our Managed OS Service.

2.2 Our Service can cover non-redundant, redundant and Clustered Hosting Servers. Different service levels apply to each different category of Hosting Server. The following Service options are available:

2.2.1   Microsoft - installation, management and support of Microsoft based Operating Systems on Hosting Servers;

2.2.2   Linux - installation, management and support of Linux Red Hat Operating Systems on Hosting Servers;

2.2.3  Sun - installation, management and support of Sun Solaris Operating Systems on Hosting Servers; and

2.2.4  Microsoft Clustering - installation, management and support of Windows 2000 Advanced Server Operating Systems on Hosting Servers as well as installation and management of the Clustered Environment redundancy.

The option(s) applicable to Your Hosting Solution will be specified in the Order Form.

2.3   All of Our Managed OS Service options provide:

2.3.1  Installation and maintenance of the selected Operating System(s) on Your Hosting Servers;

2.3.2  Hardening of the selected Operating System using Our current Operating System build guidelines;

2.3.3  Support of the Operating System and installation of Security Patches and Service Packs released or recommended by the Operating System supplier;

2.3.4  The management of up to ten Operating System user accounts. For additional charges, We can manage additional user accounts;

2.3.5  Installation of five accounts for secure VPN connections to allow You to maintain Hosted Applications remotely; and

2.3.6  For additional charges, You can use Us to implement a non-standard Operating System solution and perform Operating System modifications. 

2.4  Our Managed OS Clustered Environment Service option provides:

2.4.1  Installation and configuration of the Clustered Hosting Servers;

2.4.2  Testing of the Clustered Hosting Servers for Failover and Fallback;

2.4.3  Management of the Clustered Environment redundancy; and

2.4.4  Monitoring of the operation of the Clustered Environment, to establish whether it is operating within agreed parameters.

2.5  In addition to the Managed OS deliverables specified above, the Microsoft Clustering service option includes:

2.5.1  Active/Active or Active/Passive Cluster configuration; and

2.5.2  Cluster support for Microsoft SQL 2000 databases.

3. Service Provision Requirements

3.1  In order for Us to provide the Managed OS Service, the following requirements apply:

3.1.1  You must give Us at least five Business Days prior written notice before Your Software is installed on a Hosting Server;

3.1.2  You must give Us at least three Business Days prior written notice before an enhancement, upgrade or other modification is made to Your Software that may affect the performance, security, integrity or any other aspect of Your Hosting Solution;

3.1.3  You must ensure that any remote equipment used to access a Hosting Server to modify or upload content or for other similar purposes has a static IP address;

3.1.4  We must be provided with root or administrative access to each Hosting Server covered by Our Managed OS Service; and

3.1.5  You must not have root or administrative access to any Hosting Servers covered by Our Managed OS Service.

The charges for changes that you request will be agreed between You and Us at the time each change is requested.
