Short Code SMS

Short Code SMS is a Premium Rate Service which allows mobile customers to send and receive SMS messages to and from various service and content providers whose services are paid for by charging a premium for the SMS messages.

Normally Short Code SMS numbers are between 4 and 6 digits in length and start with a 1, 6, 7 or 8.

Cable and Wireless is working with service providers in the UK to allow customers to access these services.

Short Code SMS prices are set by the service provider and depend on the type of service you are trying to access. Most services cost between £0.25 and £1.50 per SMS but can vary between £0 and £10 per message.

Some services charge when you send an SMS to the Short Code (e.g. voting lines), others also charge when you receive an SMS from them (e.g. subscription services such as news, football results etc).

In some cases the price quoted will be in addition to the standard SMS cost which Cable and Wireless charges for handling the SMS. For example, if a voting line is charged at 50p and the standard SMS cost is 7p, you will be charged 57p for the SMS. When this is the case the full pricing information will be displayed.

Cable and Wireless will never charge an additional fee to receive an SMS from the service provider.
