Cable & Wireless Create Local Jobs
12th February 2007
Cable & Wireless is fully committed to making its presence
in the Isle Man a local one.
The company will be creating up to 40 jobs over the next two
years and most of these will go to locals. There is an excellent
skill-base to be found here according to Georgette Scott, HR
Director for Cable & Wireless in the Channel Islands and Isle
of Man. ‘There has been an excellent response to the positions
we’ve advertised so far. We’ve been delighted by the breadth of
experience and levels of enthusiasm demonstrated by our applicants.
It means we’re developing a great team in the Isle of Man.”
The announcement of Simon Last-Sutton as Commercial Director
last week heralded a home-coming for Simon and his Manx-born wife
Debra. Other staff recruited by Cable & Wireless are either
Manx or have adopted the Isle of Man as their home. This gives the
international company local experience on the ground.
The company has opened an office in Athol Street and intends to
be a play a leading role in business and in the wider community.
Sponsorship of sport, young people and the environment are a
corporate policy for the company’s offshore operations in the Isle
of Man, Guernsey and Jersey. Cable & Wireless hope to make a
positive difference on the Island.
Cable & Wireless has already partnered with local
businesses. Hamblin and the Mannin Media Group will partner the
telecommunications company in recruitment and the provision of
media planning and printing services. Terry Van Rhyn, Marketing
Director for Mannin Media said, “We are delighted to be the
strategic marketing and PR partner for Cable & Wireless. It is
an exciting time to be involved in the telecoms sector on the
Island and it’s great that Cable & Wireless are investing in
local talent”.
