Cable & Wireless are a “Sure” thing

2nd March, 2007

At a press breakfast, held yesterday morning at The Sefton, Cable & Wireless announced they would be operating on the Island under the brand name “Sure” — which was introduced in Jersey when the mobile service launched last year.

Steve Eldridge, Head of PR and Media for the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, who made the presentation, said “We want Sure to be part of the fabric of the local community”, “It is a fun, fresh brand, which aims to put a smile on customers faces”. He went on to say that Sure will offer an innovative range of services and will change the relationship the customer has with their mobile by offering exceptional customer service. “We aim to breathe new life into telecommunications in the Isle of Man”, said Eldridge.

He also confirmed that Cable & Wireless is making a huge commitment to the Island. They are investing millions of pounds in their network and expect to employ -around 30 staff within the next twelve to eighteen months. They will offer the latest technology and have formed partnerships with local businesses as well as leading companies such as Nokia and Conran Design to enhance their product offering. The retail store has been selected and will be opened during the summer when the network is complete.

As well as launching the Sure brand yesterday, Cable & Wireless’s corporate offices in Athol Street were opened by Chief Minister Tony Brown MHK in front of approximately 40 other guests, including MHKs and those who have helped Cable & Wireless with their set up so far.

Geoff Houston, Chief Executive for the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, thanked everyone for coming and said “We are delighted to be here. We are very proud to be part of the Manx community and we are really looking forward to launching a great service”

The Chief Minister said in his unveiling speech “This is not just the opening of an office, it is opening up of telecommunications competition on the Island that we haven’t seen before”. “I’m sure the people of the Isle of Man will welcome the opportunity to have choice which can only be a good thing for the Island”.
