Cable & Wireless signifies choice with first call
13th March 2007
A GIANT STEP towards true customer choice was taken today when
Cable & Wireless made the first mobile call on its developing
network.

Local Cable & Wireless engineer, Stuart
Kempner, makes a successful test call. Stuart is in the process of
buying a new home at Port St Mary with his wife, Ann. He has more
than 20 years experience in telecoms including Ericsson and BT.
The call, which was made from Ronaldsway, was part of a series
of tests on voice and text services that will be offered to Manx
customers when the Sure Mobile service launches in the Summer.
Tests will continue throughout March.
Cable & Wireless commercial director, Simon Last-Sutton,
said: “We’re delighted with the successful conclusion of the first
milestone in the development of our service. It represents a
landmark in the introduction of true competition for Manx
customers. Our focus is on delivering customers a high quality
mobile service and all our efforts reflect this”.
The infrastructure behind Sure Mobile has been designed by
Nokia, the world-leader in mobile equipment, networks and solutions
assuring Manx customers of the highest quality service. That
quality is being tested to the full through robust processes being
implemented by Cable & Wireless engineers in the Isle of
Man.
Mr Last-Sutton said: “There is huge demand for Cable &
Wireless to offer mobile services. Our research indicated that 70%
of customers wanted to consider an alternative from their current
provider. Because of the support we’ve received so far and the hard
work of our local team, we’re on track to launch this summer”.
