Sure acts on mobile roaming charges
1st July 2010
Sure mobile customers will receive information
about roaming charges when they travel to Europe this summer.
The mobile phone operator has moved to assist
customers in being aware of the costs they may build up when using
a mobile when abroad.
The EU regulator has today introduced greater
protection for mobile phone and computer users from running up
large data bills when overseas. The new rules will mean that users
will be automatically cut off when their monthly bill reaches 50
euros, and warned at 80% of this limit.
Those rules will not apply to Channel Island
operators but Sure has made two service improvements in this area
anyway.
From today all roaming customers will receive a
welcome SMS message from Sure when they arrive overseas, informing
them of roaming charges.
In addition Sure mobile customers already
receive calls in Europe free (that is 48 European destinations, not
just within the EU). Other networks charge people travelling the
cost of the received call when they are phoned while abroad.
Steve Smith, Head of PR at Sure, said:
“Roaming call charges can be a big issue for customers and we hope
that these moves will go some way towards addressing this.
