Nokia completes Sure network testing
Engineers from world-leading mobile services provider, Nokia
have recently completed an island-wide drive testing of Sure
mobile’s Jersey network, and as a result have underlined its
strengths compared to rival Jersey Telecom.
Sure, the mobile phone service provided by Cable & Wireless,
operates across the Channel Islands and Isle of Man. The company
signed a major international agreement with Nokia for the supply of
the latest radio and core network technology in March 2006. Nokia
supports networks all over the world and has deployed its latest
network technology for the Sure mobile network in Jersey.
Nokia’s extensive drive testing of the £30m network
identified that the call set-up success rate (likelihood of being
able to connect a call whilst travelling around the island) was 99%
on Sure mobile’s network compared to 95.13% on Jersey
Telecom.
Customers who send and receive data using their mobile will also
get an excellent service. The testing monitored download speeds for
data services, especially email and web browsing, on a mobile
handset. Sure mobile’s data network has full island coverage
providing both EDGE and 3rd generation mobile connectivity. In
addition, the operator also has the most extensive range of roaming
agreements for BlackBerry users, including a recently signed
agreement for data/email roaming with the local operator in
Dubai.
Mark Briers, Marketing Director of Sure mobile, commented:
“We are delighted to have completed this stage of our network
development and to have had its performance independently audited
by the experts from Nokia. Our network has the island covered,
we’ve slashed mobile usage prices and have introduced customer
focused delivery and support. Quite simply, you get more when you
choose Sure.”
He added:
“The initial phase of building and testing is complete. We
have invested and developed our network ever since launch last
September and we plan to maintain these fantastic
results and our customers can expect coverage to continually
get better over the months ahead, which of course is essential as
we meet the needs of a rapidly growing customer
base.”
