More from Sure – internet access anywhere, anytime

Sure, the brand which brought innovation, value and choice to Jersey’s mobile customers in 2006, is now seeking to do the same for internet provision.
Sure business, the corporate brand for Cable & Wireless Jersey, has launched its first internet access device - allowing professionals to access the internet anywhere in Jersey, at any time.
The Sure high speed mobile data device uses high speed packet download access (HSPDA) to connect users to the internet. Customers simply plug a small device into a spare USB port on a desktop or laptop computer and can access the internet using Sure’s 3G mobile network. As well as accessing the internet and sending emails, customers will also be able to send text messages to any network from their computer.
This is the first HSDPA product launched within Sure’s Channel Islands & Isle of Man business and can currently allow data access at speeds in excess of 2 Megabits (MB). Access speed will vary depending on the number of users accessing the internet in a single mobile cell site area at any one time. Sure has 45 mobile cell sites providing great coverage of the entire island.
There is a huge 10GB download limit each month, which translates to sending thousands of emails plus browsing the web for hours, accessing hundreds of two minute videos and downloading hundreds of music files!
Customers can also use the device to access the internet in the Bailiwick of Guernsey and the Isle of Man whilst on business without incurring any roaming costs.
All Sure high speed mobile data customers will also receive dedicated 24/7 telephone support from Sure’s Contact Support Centre, which is located in Guernsey.
Mark Briers, Sure’s Marketing Director, commented:
“Sure’s new high speed mobile data device is the ultimate accessory for Jersey professionals on-the-go. There will no longer be a need to search for wireless hotspots when out – now you can use a laptop wherever work or life takes you. An estate agent, for example, could answer emails and file paperwork whilst waiting for a viewing to begin – a huge time saving. A banking relationship manager could visit a client at home and talk through their accounts and investments using real time data. This device can facilitate all that and is an example of how we are trying to create products which provide simple solutions to real problems.”
Walid Bounassif, Director of Engineering and technology services for Cable & Wireless International (CWI), added:
“We are delighted that Jersey is deploying this new service, which supports the policy we have employed for the last few years in Cable & Wireless International to employ the most innovative and up-to-date solutions to meet the diverse needs of our customers across 33 territories. Once capable devices are available, it is a simple job to upgrade Jersey’s network to offer the current maximum HSDPA speed, which is 14.4 megabits per second. We can replicate similar capabilities throughout the CWI portfolio.”
Dr Mike Rosser, who has been a trial customer for the service, said:
“I am a doctor and this technology has helped change the way I work. No matter where I am on the island I can now access all the information I need and keep in touch with my practice in town. In my spare time I am a private pilot, so the fact that Sure offers this service across the Channel Islands and Isle of Man is very useful.”
The device costs just £25 per month, with an additional £30 set up cost for non-Sure customers.
