Connectivity costs hit record low

Local business costs for sending and receiving voice, data and internet traffic internationally have hit a record low.
Cable & Wireless has significantly increased value for IP (Internet Protocol) feeds and private circuit products following the completion of its multi-routed HUGO undersea cable network.
The operator, which trades locally as Sure, invested £6.5 million to put the Channel Islands’ telecommunications links on a par with the world’s leading business centres. HUGO provides the islands with three undersea cables directly plugged into Cable & Wireless’ international network (over 70 undersea cables connecting six continents). HUGO has three legs – one to the UK and two into France. The cables connect directly to either London or Paris and then onwards around the globe.
Following the completion of the network late in 2007, Sure has now undertaken a price review which has driven down the costs for its business customers. For example, the cost of private circuits – which send a company’s voice, data and internet traffic down a single dedicated line - have been reduced by up to nearly 40%.
Gregory Jordan, Sure’s Channel Islands Commercial Director, commented:
“HUGO is delivering the savings which we as a business always promised; our investment in world-class communications now provides our customers with peace of mind and for the Channel Island’s finance and internet industries in particular, multiple resilient routes for mission critical voice, data and internet traffic is here. Our customers want a service which is always on and it is our job to deliver that. As one of the few truly global carriers we are very good at that.”
“At a time of rising business costs generally, it’s good to be announcing that technology is helping local businesses to be more competitive.”
