What are the best movies to watch outdoors?

What are the best movies to watch in the open air? That’s the question being asked of islanders by the organisers of this year’s Jersey Film Festival, which is being sponsored by Sure.
The event has been re-named the Sure Picture Show in partnership with the Jersey Film Festival, but will retain the same successful format it’s had since 1994 - a week of stunning free outdoor cinema in Howard Davis Park aimed at the whole Jersey community.
The Sure Picture Show will take place from 16th – 22nd August 2008 and there will be a free film to see every night at 8:30pm. There’s no cost, but will be a retiring collection as well as goodies such as pop corn on sale for charity.
Deputy Kevin Lewis, who owns the Forum community cinema has organised the event since it started. He commented:
“We are limited in choosing films by distributor agreements, but would like the input of islanders so that we can screen the type of movies they want to see. It might be a family classic like Ghostbusters, a musical like Hairspray, or maybe a big screen blockbuster featuring James Bond or Jason Bourne.”
He added:
“We won’t show anything rated over 12A because we want as many people as possible to be able to enjoy watching movies in the park. We can generally access any film which was released over six months ago. Cinema makes film watching a collective, big screen experience. Open air cinema adds an extra atmospheric dimension. I’ll be interested to see what films islanders want to see and do my very best to screen the most popular suggestions in August.”
Sure has set up a text line to make it easier for islanders to suggest movies for the Picture Show. Customers of any mobile network can text their film suggestions to: 07700 376 004. People can also make suggestions online by visiting www.surecw.com.* Mr. Lewis will choose the movies on 6th July.

* Films must be rated U-12A only. Regrettably we are unable to show Disney cartoons or Star Wars due to rights issues. The organisers of this event will endeavor to show the most popular films as voted for by the Jersey public, but reserve the full right to select the movies shown. Texts will cost normal operator rates.
