LOCAL MASTERPIECE FOR STREET GALLERY
COMPETITION WINNER
Local resident Miss J Hickman has been
announced as the winner of the Sure ‘Win your own Masterpiece’
competition.
The competition, which has been running
alongside the Sure Street Gallery in partnership with Jersey
Heritage, offered entrants the chance to win a framed copy of ‘View
of St Helier, 1833’ by correctly identifying the number of animals
in the painting.
The competition supplements the Sure Street
Gallery in partnership with Jersey Heritage, which has been running
over the summer. Since 28th May, the very heart of
St Helier has been transformed into an al fresco gallery to exhibit
12 actual size copies of some of Jersey’s most famous
paintings.
The Street Gallery, which has livened up the
town for four months, will leave the streets on the 6th
October but Steve Smith, Head of PR for Sure, is confident that the
success of the initiative will lead to similar events in the
future.
“The response to the Sure Street Gallery in
partnership with Jersey Heritage has been fantastic,” said Mr
Smith.
“It is so important to showcase the island’s
art heritage, and even more important for it to be completely
accessible by the whole community. We are looking into repeating
this initiative, or a similar one, in future. Sure would also like
to extend its congratulations to the competition winner, and hope
that she gets great pleasure from the masterpiece that she now
owns.”
The last day of the Street Gallery is Sunday
5h October. Anyone wishing to walk the route and
learn about Jersey’s most famous paintings can get information
leaflets and a map from the Jersey Museum, Sure store, and other
distribution outlets.
