NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE FOR SURE
JERSEY
Graham Hughes has been appointed to the
position of Chief Executive for Sure, the trading name for Cable
& Wireless in Jersey.
Previously head of sales and operations for the
business, Mr Hughes will now lead the team in Jersey in the
development of the business both locally and internationally.
Mr Hughes joined the company in January 2004, following the award
of its telecommunications licence in December 2003. Since
joining he has performed a variety of roles within the business,
primarily in operations, and was responsible for the launch of its
corporate data service in October 2004. Mr Hughes also led
the operational team in readiness for the launch of Sure Mobile in
September 2006.
Born in Jersey, Mr Hughes was educated at Les
Quennevais and Hautlieu schools before leaving the island to train
as an aircraft engineer at the Royal Navy School of Aeronautical
Engineering. He served in the Royal Navy for six years,
serving in the UK and Hong Kong.
On his return to Jersey Mr Hughes then worked
at Reuters for 16 years holding a variety of roles in engineering,
sales and operations. He left the company in the position of
business manager Channel Islands and Isle of Man.
“Joining the company back in 2004 presented a number of challenges,
not least the complexities of being involved in building a
telecommunications operator from scratch and from a blank sheet of
paper,” he said.
Traditionally Cable & Wireless enters new
markets by acquisition. In the case of Jersey this was a new build
- a very rare occurrence.”
Despite the many challenges, we have a highly motivated team in
Jersey and I am very pleased with what has been achieved to date. I
am very much looking forward to taking the business to its next
stages of
development.”
Eddie Saints, CEO for Sure in the Channel
Islands, IoM and Bermuda is delighted that Mr Hughes has been
promoted to Chief Executive in Jersey.
“Graham is an outstanding employee who brings a
wealth of knowledge and experience to the table.” he said
“I have no doubt that he will thrive in his
new role, and that the business will continue to grow and develop
as a direct result of his input.”
